The London studio is moving forward for summer 06! General info meeting at KAM AUD on Sept. 7th at 5PM. See you there.
The studio will cover 6 studio credits and thousands of miles. There is no other place like London for graphic design—it has a fantastic history and culture in things typographic, graphic, and all stops in-between. 5.5 weeks, letterpress experiences, excursion to Glasgow, long weekends for research and travel—and much more to talk about when we meet soon. You are welcome to email me with interest in attending.

alumni are welcome to go! the more the better. continuing education is a beautiful thing.

I'd really like to go! I will need an immersion in culture before I immerse myself in work!

what are the chances of the trip happening again in a couple of years?
and/or
is there an estimated cost?
+++++
Dakota: There is always a chance we may do it again, but one should not bank on it. As for costs: there is a high-end that I and other here at the univ. like to keep trips under. I will announce a meeting soon to talk about details—stay tuned. Tony B.

I would also be down for an alum trip to London.
When I was a student we didn't go any further than Borders or Crabtree Valley for moments of inspiration.

KB: It would be great to see you there!

I advise everyone to check this out, if it is financially feasible for you to participate. I was on the '03 trip, and it was quality - I wish I was there today!

Where would everyone like to go?
I've heard requests for Paris, Barcelona, Ireland, and such. Any other suggestions?

If its possible, I'm do or dying it to Rotterdam (aka "the avant-garde capital of Holland"). Its a burgeoning hub for contemporary art and all things au courant. There is beautiful architecture (a la Rem Koolhaas & OMN) and everything about the city is incredibly forward-thinking. Additionally, there is a Hostel on a boat located right in the thick of it all... which could prove to be a fun experience. As far as my personal reasons for going, I am deeply in love with Dutch typography, folk art, and design philosophy so I'd like to get a sliver of some of that. I plan on doing more research on studios to visit as well as other places of interest in and around Rotterdam.
Either way, I don't really care where I go, the previously mentioned all seem like such viable and interesting options. Its gonna be sweet no matter where we are. London might be enough by itself! Anyway, Get at me if you're interested.

Edinburgh is intriguing. Do you know what one does in Edinburgh?
I’m terribly interested in going to Ireland. Is anyone else thinking about an Ireland trip?

anyone like to meet one last time as a whole group / partial group before the break? i can show pics of the printshop + my travel pics of the last trip. post here if you have interest + time that would be good
Posted by tony on November 17, 2005 05:29 PM
i would like to do that. i'm not 100% focused on this trip right now because of, erm, school. but i'll be doing a lot of research and planning over the break, so it would be good to have that jumping off point
would it be possible to meet the week of Dec 5? or is that too late?
++ Rachel: we can figure out Edinburgh [see note ^ above o_O]
Posted by lauren broeils on November 18, 2005 07:52 AM
yeh i agree, a meeting would be beneficial. Just to get our heads together, get to see everyone going and find out what people are thinking.
On a travel note.
I would really like to get to Ireland, thats purely a personal desire, but it sounds like others are interested as well.
I think that Rotterdam sounds incredible based on the post by Travis. I am psyched to look into that. Consider me interested as well.
