Welcome to GD400: Screen-based Interaction Design

This is the space where I will be posting [my] thoughts, advice, and general day-to-day comments concerning studio. We have had a little f2f intro concerning the course, but I like to add that I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday and are excited to be focusing your time on screen-based media. As with Imaging III, I intend for the course to be paced so you can approach the media without freaking out with information overload.

Goals for the course include a broad understanding of dynamic online media and the development of efficient and creative means of approaching and designing in motion, interaction, and sound. Processes will build on those developed through your prior studios and take into account historical, media-specific, and user influenced contexts. Multiple concept iterations will be assessed through paper and digital modeling.

The course will rely on your openness to experimentation and exploration. Self-defined, proactive research and making is necessary for one to gain control and develop drive and energy. Strong working methods that sustain energy are required in learning and developing skills in new media. So enjoy it. Share your learning with the group and remain patient when your buttons stop working for no reason.

I will be assessing the depth of your research and range of alternatives considered. If a button breaks give it fair review but when the fix begins to require hours and days, design around it, seek alternatives, and do not loose sight of the whole. Here we go!
